The Farm Family Table⏐Homesteading, Homemaking, Christian Mom New Do you desire a simpler, healthier lifestyle for your family but just feel stuck in the hustle of busy mom life? Do you wish there was an easy way to start homesteading without immediately feeling overwhelmed, burned out, or not good enough? Hi, I’m Jocelyn, and I’m so excited you’re here at The Farm Family Table. I remember when I became a new mom, I wanted to set my child up for their best, healthiest life, but often I felt exhausted and discouraged. I wanted to provide the best food, from-scratch, and be more self-reliant, but it felt impossible to balance learning new skills, taking care of my home, and spending quality time with my kids. I felt overwhelmed by all the things I wanted and needed to do, and felt guilty when I couldn’t keep up. I compared myself to picture-perfect farm life on social media, only to feel like I’m not doing enough but not sure how to do more. This was not the life God had planned for me. But then I discovered a secret to start homesteading the easy way for less stress, more joy, and more time focusing on what matters most, faith and family. What if I told you, there’s a way that you can achieve healthy balance and thrive in this lifestyle that God is calling you to? Want to learn how? Inside this podcast, you will find: - Encouragement for creating a homestead with God at the center - Resources for building knowledge in homesteading skills like cooking from scratch, gardening, food preservation, and raising animals - Practical tips for faith-based family life on the farm I can’t wait for you to join me on this journey, so we can slow down, put God and our families first, and enjoy a more simple, natural, self-sufficient lifestyle. My prayer is that you leave this podcast encouraged in Christ and equipped with practical knowledge for your homestead. As the title of this episode suggests, I have some exciting news to share with you —our sweet baby girl has finally arrived! We are completely in love with her, soaking up all the newborn snuggles, and adjusting to life as a family of 5. I will be stepping away from the podcast for the next few weeks as we settle into this new season. But don’t worry, I won’t be gone for too long! I already have some incredible episodes planned for when I return, and I cannot wait to jump back in with you all soon. Thank you all so much for your love, support, and patience during this special time.

Cooking from scratch is rewarding - you know exactly what you are feeding your family, you can be proud of what you actually made yourself, but it’s also exhausting at times, especially when you are feeding a family every single day, sometimes multiple times a day. It truly is an endless cycle that takes time and energy. It can be easy to start feeling burned out and just want a break, but the reality is, people need to eat and you don’t necessarily just want to throw nutrition out the window and order frozen pizzas or throw your budget to the wind and start eating out a lot more frequently. Today, I want to talk about kitchen burnout, how you can pull yourself out of the slump if you feel like you’re already there, and give you some meal prep tricks to keep your kitchen routine simple, effective, and enjoyable.

I pray that you find this episode encouraging today that if you are burned out in the kitchen, you don’t have to stay stuck there.  There are practical things you can do to lessen your workload without sacrificing homemade meals. And, at the end of the day, it all comes back to mindset - finding purpose in the work that you do and making the shift to see working in your kitchen as a blessing to your family rather than one more chore. As 1 Corinthians 10:31 tells us, “Do everything for the glory of God.” That includes homemade meals for the ones we love!

If you have looked at ingredient labels lately, you might have noticed that seed oils - sunflower, soybean, corn, cottonseed, sometimes just under the name vegetable oil, are in just about everything, but there is still a lot of controversy about how these oils affect our health. In today’s episode we are diving into the world of nourishing, traditional fats, why they matter, how to use them in everyday cooking, where to source them, and how to make the switch without blowing your family’s grocery budget. This episode will give you the practical tips you need to make real, wholesome fats an essential part of your family’s diet.

I hope this episode helps you find healthy, affordable fats that work for your family. This is not an issue that we should stress about, but just make the effort to make healthy swaps when we can. When you make a point to cook from scratch and eat more at home, incorporating healthy fats into your own home cooking can make such a big difference in the grand scheme of things. I pray that God would ultimately give you peace as you dive into switching to healthier fats. Thank you so much for joining me!

Do you feel like there’s never enough time to work on your homesteading goals? Between kids, meals, cleaning, and all your other responsibilities, it can feel like there is absolutely no room left. The key to making progress on your homestead, even when your days are busy, is to make small intentional steps each day, using daily habits to help you grow and improve your homestead one day at a time. Avoid overwhelm and burnout by shifting your mindset that you can do this, growing your homesteading slowly, steadily, just 1% at a time.

I hope that this episode encourages you that you can do this homesteading journey. It might take time, you might have to rethink your routines and how you use your time, you might have to let some of your own standards go, but if you keep at it, putting one foot in front of the other each day, you will be able to build your homestead 1% at a time. And when you look back in a year or two, you will be so proud of the work you’ve put in and how far you’ve come. For those of you that may have been struggling with some discouragement or burnout, I pray that this episode gives you new perspective and you are able to find renewed strength with your homesteading journey, knowing that it really doesn’t all have to happen tomorrow. And really not the next day or the day after that. Thank you so much for joining me!

Do you know what the most toxic part of your home is? When was the last time you checked under your bathroom sink? When you start to look into the ingredients in our everyday mainstream cleaning products, it can be downright scary, but switching to non-toxic solutions doesn’t have to be stressful, expensive, or complicated. Today, I want to share the natural  cleaning solutions that work well for our family. If you are totally new to switching to more natural products or if you’ve tried before, but have been frustrated because you feel like they just don’t work as well, I am excited to share some of the solutions that I have learned over the years, and help you tackle this journey towards a healthier home without the overwhelm.

I hope this episode helps you rethink your cleaning routine and make the switch to more non-toxic options in your home. I pray that God would help you not to be stressed or overwhelmed as you go through this process. As Christians, we are called to not be ruled by a spirit of fear. It can be so easy to be fearful of the chemicals that might be lurking in our everyday environment and the impact that can have on ourselves and our children. But we know that God is in charge of our health, our bodies, and I pray that you would trust him as you dive into this process and make gradual changes. Thank you so much for joining me!
